Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Yellow Springs Schools is committed to creating and maintaining a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion for our students, staff, parents and families, and broader school community. To that end, the district is committed to:

  • raising our awareness of systemic racism both within and outside the school walls;

  • working intentionally to investigate racist behaviors, policies, and practices impacting our student body;

  • connecting with our community for engagement in designing a public education system that addresses historical and systemic barriers experienced by current and former students, families and staff; and

  • enacting anti-racist policies and procedures through the development of an Equity & Opportunity Action Plan.

To guide this work, the Yellow Springs Schools District Equity Team, composed of teachers and administrators from both buildings, has had training from the National Conference for Community & Justice (NCCJ) of Greater Dayton, as well as sustained participation in the Montgomery County ESC Equity Leadership Institute (ELI).

We will continue to offer professional learning opportunities for all Yellow Springs Schools staff focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Our goal, through the creation of our Equity & Opportunity Action Plan, will be to consider how we might build equitable access and opportunity across race, class, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and language, in a sustainable and systemic way that serves, supports, values, and celebrates our Yellow Springs students.
