Military Recruit Award
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) is partnering with the Ohio Department of Veterans Services to introduce the Military Recruit award, which supports public school districts, community schools, independent STEM schools, and joint vocational school districts in their efforts to recruit eligible military individuals, as defined in section 3319.285 of the Revised Code, for employment in public schools. This program acknowledges the valuable skills and experiences military personnel bring to the field of education and provides financial incentives to attract and retain these individuals to work in public schools.
New Hire Bonus: The district will offer a $3,000 bonus to new hires who meet the criteria of eligible military individuals. After one year of employment with the school district.
Eligibility Criteria: Military individuals (as defined in 3319.285 of the ORC) who are new, first-time Ohio School Certificated or Classified Staff with the date of employment beginning no earlier than July 1, 2023:
a) An active-duty member of any branch of the United States armed forces;
b) A veteran of any branch of the United States armed forces who separated from service with an honorable discharge;
c) A member of the National Guard or a member of a reserve component of the United States armed forces;
d) A spouse of a member or veteran described above.
