English as a Second Language

Upon enrollment, all parents/guardians complete a Home Language Survey to determine the need for further screening and EL identification.  Services are provided by a teacher with a license to teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). A variety of instructional techniques and strategies are used to develop proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Comprehension.  Services vary for individual students but may include a combination of small group instruction, classroom supports, and full language emersion strategies.

Once identified with EL status, students are administered the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) and continue to receive EL services until they score proficient or higher in all areas.
