Orchestra
The Instrumental music program starts in 5th grade with an exploratory year in which each student completes three 12 weeks sessions in which they learn to play three instruments, culminating in a performance at the end of each session. Each student then selects a focus instrument for 6th grade to perform on for the full year.
The string orchestra program begins in the 6th grade, offering students an exciting opportunity to learn and develop musical skills through string instruments such as the violin, viola, and cello and string bass. With a focus on building a strong foundation in musicianship, students receive comprehensive instruction in technique, music reading, and ensemble performance. Throughout the year, students will participate in concerts and other performance opportunities, showcasing their progress and growing passion for music. Whether students are just starting their musical journey or continuing to refine their craft, the orchestra program fosters creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
YSHS also offers a combo music class (guitars) for students in grades 9-12 and focuses on music from more recent popular culture. Steve have the opportunity to perform several times during the year.
