Band
The Instrumental music program starts in 5th grade with an exploratory year in which each student will get to complete three 12 weeks sessions in which they learn to play three instruments total, culminating in a performance at the end of each session. Each student then selects a focus instrument for 6th grade to perform on for the full year.
The band instrumental music program program at Yellow Springs Schools begins in the 6th grade, providing students with an engaging introduction to wind and percussion instruments, including woodwind, brass, and concert percussion instruments. Students are guided through the fundamentals of playing their instrument, reading music, and performing in an ensemble. With a focus on both individual growth and teamwork, the program helps students build confidence and develop essential skills in musicianship. Throughout the year, students have the chance to participate in concerts and community performances, showcasing their talents and progress. The band department encourages creativity, dedication, and a lifelong love of music.
YSHS also offers a combo music class (guitars) for students in grades 9-12 and focuses on music from more recent popular culture. Steve have the opportunity to perform several times during the year.
