Welcome to Yellow Springs Schools, where we pride ourselves on providing a diverse, inclusive school environment dedicated to educating the whole child.
Our district is a leader in a student-centered approach to learning, educating the whole student through project-based learning. Through this innovative approach to 21st Century Education, students work individually and collaboratively to meet educational standards and master concepts through hands-on learning as they explore solutions to real-world projects. Students are not only engaged in the classroom, but learning important skills for future success, like critical thinking, teamwork, and communication – the skills employers value and the qualities that make a leader. A highly-qualified staff guides students through this process, designing an education that meets the needs of every student.
Although our students and staff do not spend time preparing for the standardized tests that plague modern education, our students consistently perform well on these exams. Consistently each year, Yellow Springs Schools is one of the highest-scoring districts in the region. YSHS was ranked in the Top 25 of high schools on the U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools List in 2017, the 4th appearance on the list in 5 years. And the McKinney Middle School team of educators earned the highest honor as Team of the Year from the Ohio Middle Level Education Association. Results like these prove that by focusing on what matters in our classrooms – real-world skills, engaging and innovative education, and educating the whole student – our students are prepared for any challenge that comes their way.
That’s why we continue to keep what matters most in front of every decision we make at Yellow Springs Schools: Doing what’s best for students and supporting each child to be an active and engaged participant in their education.
