Our Fearless Thespians spent the weekend at the Ohio State Thespian Conference in Akron performing GIRLS LIKE THAT and a cutting of ROMEO AND JULIET for their peers statewide, complete with standing ovations for both performances. The students also spent the weekend watching plays, attending workshops and making new friends with those also in attendance. Thanks to all the Fearless Chaperones and our Most Fearless Bus-driver who fed, wrangled and supported our theater department through a whole building of theater people and a surprise three inches of snow. It was truly an authentic experience for us all—one we will remember and cherish.
This week finds the Sound of Music cast and crew still dealing with illness. Over half of our cast has been affected and is still recuperating from a combination of Influenza A, strep and or a norovirus. Our voices are at half and our energy level less. In our interest to give the cast the best experience possible and let them have the show they deserve, we will be moving the musicale dates to April 11th-14th at the Foundry. We will be honoring any tickets sold to date and will publish exact times and provide communications around how to redeem your tickets for the performances. The good news is it takes a GREAT VILLAGE to reschedule a play on the fly! Thanks to the Foundry, the Community Band, the TAA and YSHS and District Administration for their help. We can’t wait for you to see healthy students in this show! More to come!!
Update on the YSHS/McKinney production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC: today finds more of our cast getting sick or growing sicker. In order to give our students time to rest and heal, the scheduled Sunday, March 10th performance of the SOUND OF MUSIC at 3:30 pm is cancelled. The show will joyfully return this Thursday, March 14th at 7:30 pm. Get well everyone!
Dear Families, Friends and Supporters of the Fearless Theater Department: The current bug going around is taking its toll. As of this morning, 23% of our student body across McKinney and YSHS was out sick. The symptoms of this illness are a headache, fever (sometimes very high), aches, congestion and chills. There are also reported cases of strep as well. We tell you this to be on the lookout—as our numbers show, it seems to be highly contagious. The viral version also seems to run a long course—several days at the least. Because we want our students to be well and have positive experiences in their extracurriculars, Administration and the Theater Department have come to the decision to postpone the opening of THE SOUND OF MUSIC from Friday, March 8th to Sunday, March 10th at 3:30 p.m. This letter will detail our adjusted schedule and what this means for those who have purchased tickets. ADJUSTED SCHEDULE: The new schedule to see THE SOUND OF MUSIC is as follows. All shows are at the Foundry Theater, 920 Corry St. in Yellow Springs. *Sunday, March 10th – 3: 30 p.m. Thursday, March 14th – 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15th – 8:00 p.m. Saturday March 16th – 2:00 p.m. AND 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17th –3:30 p.m. *We will determine Saturday afternoon if our students are well enough to perform on Sunday. A confirmation will be published to our theater webpage on Saturday by 6 p.m. FOR TICKET HOLDERS: CURTAIN WARMER: will still be held tomorrow, Friday March 8th at the Arthur Morgan House. You will be able to attend the reception and then use your ticket for any of the shows listed above. Seats will be held for each performance. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the show to claim your reserved seat. SHOWTIX4U.COM PURCHASES: Tickets purchased online for this Friday and Saturday will be honored for the corresponding evening performance the next week. Open rehearsal for Bulldogs and Community Band! The YS Bulldog Theater would like to invite our community to come see (and maybe sing with) a music rehearsal of THE SOUND OF MUSIC! Time: 7:30 p.m. Date: Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 Where: THE FOUNDRY THEATER – 920 Corry St, Yellow Springs Ohio: ABOUT THE EVENT: On Saturday, March 2nd, the Foundry will be alive with singing in support of the YSHS/McKinney Theater Program. The YS community is invited to arrive at 7:30 to attend an open rehearsal and if so moved, to sing the beloved music of the upcoming musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC along with the YSHS/McKinney cast and Community Band. Feel free to wear your liederhosen and alpine hats as we rehearse select songs from the production and add your voices as you show your support for Live Arts in our Schools! Attending the rehearsal is free and the event is open to all ages. Donations will be accepted to help assist the Bulldog Theater students for the upcoming OHEDTA State Thespian conference appearances with ROMEO AND JULIET and GIRLS LIKE THAT. Concessions will be available from the Theater Arts Association, the booster organization for Yellow Springs Bulldog Theater. to make sure all singers are hydrated as we rehearse such favorites as “Do a Deer”, “Edelweiss” and “The Lonely Goatherd”. JANUARY 20th: due to weather, the student movie extras call for ROYALS is now arrive at 11 am for all students with filming wrapping at 5:15 pm. There will be another weather check at 8 am—please check back then to make sure things are still scheduled before leaving for school.

The 9th grade Study Skills class kicked off their PBL project for the year, the YSHS Career Seminars. They attended a mock 10-year high school class reunion to get them thinking of what kinds of things they would like to accomplish in the next 14 years. They had fun mingling and telling their classmates all about it, followed by refreshments, of course.
McKinney 7th Graders: Make sure you prepare physically and mentally for our training ride tomorrow afternoon. It will be hot! Dress appropriately! Bring your bike, water bottle, and helmet ready to ride!
