Why have an Annual Campaign?
In order for Yellow Springs Schools to maintain our reputation for excellence, we need active participation from parents, community members, and alumni. Participation comes in different forms, but we hope that all friends of the schools will offer a financial gift to the Annual Campaign according to their ability to give. We also encourage our families, community members, and alumni to become involved by volunteering time.
What is the Annual Campaign?
The Annual Campaign is a fundraiser that collects additional funds needed to provide teachers and students with opportunities that go above and beyond the reach of the district’s normal operating budget, including funding for teacher training and special projects. Last year, we raised over $17,000 in donations from parents, staff, community members and alumni. Annual Campaign contributions are used to provide students with learning experiences that extend outside of the classroom and into the local, national and global community. Funds are also used to invest in staff growth and development, ensuring that we have the best teachers leading our classrooms.
Contributions to the Annual Campaign can be directed to one of two funds managed by the Yellow Springs Community Foundation. Descriptions of these funds are listed below:
Yellow Springs Public Schools Fund (YSPSF): Established to help support high-priority educational needs of the school district. A portion (20%) of all gifts is allocated to the YSPSF endowment fund to create an ongoing source of income for the fund. The Superintendent determines how funds will be used to have the greatest impact each year (e.g., teacher training activities, international service learning trips for students). All funding requests made by the Superintendent are reviewed by a YSCF advisory committee.
Yellow Springs Endowment for Education (YSEE): A source of funding for classroom projects that encourage excellence, creativity, and diversity in education for students of Yellow Springs Schools. Only faculty, staff and students of the Yellow Springs Schools are eligible to submit funding requests, which are reviewed by a YSCF advisory committee for consistency with YSEE's mission.
How do I make a donation?
To make a donation to the Annual Campaign, access the Donate Now button on the Advancement page of the Yellow Springs Schools website (www.ysschools.org/Advancement.aspx) or make a check payable to the Yellow Springs Community Foundation, with YSPSF or YSEE in the memo line. Can I request that my donation be used in a specific way?
Restricted annual gifts are not encouraged by the district because they limit the flexibility the administration has to meet the most pressing needs.

Additionally, the Yellow Springs Community Foundation administers several funds that benefit Yellow Springs Schools. Is my gift to the schools tax deductible?
Yes, if the donation is made through the Yellow Springs Community Foundation. The Foundation is a tax-exempt, public, charitable corporation and any contributions are tax-deductible. A cash gift is fully deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income in any one year.
As a public school district, Yellow Springs Exempted Village School District is exempt from federal income tax and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions from individuals under Section 170(c)(1) of the IRC. However, we are not currently set up to administer tax-deductible contributions and advise donors who prefer their contribution to be tax-exempt to direct their donation to the Yellow Springs Community Foundation.
